Treasurer Joan Jeffers

Dear Members,

Happy new year to you all once again the fishing season is fast approaching! We would like to see you all at the AGM if possible at the Boat of Garten hotel on 1st February for 7pm.

As 11th February opening day falls on Sunday this year please remember not to have a cast till Monday 12th !

Roda Catches for 2023 are as follows:

2023 Salmon 39 Grilse 7 Sea Trout 77

2022 Salmon 56 Grilse 7 Sea Trout 69

Most of the Spey was pretty much the same with low catches. Please do not forget to follow the club rules – all spring fish to be returned. Then 2nd or 4th cock fish can be retained but all fish over 10lbs to be put back. Remember these could be our future stocks. All sea trout over 3lb to be returned. No sea trout to be killed in September and no finnock to be taken. No worming before 1st May or after 31st August. All fish to be reported to Gary within 24 hours. As a club we must take responsibility to try and preserve fish stocks and help the Spey Board as much as possible.

2023 membership remained good – 37 seniors 39 adults 11 juniors

2023 trophies are awarded to:

Chris Jeffers for 1st salmon on a fly

Kenny Macdonald 1st sea trout on fly

Chris Jeffers heaviest salmon 24lbs on fly

Visitor tickets again were slightly up on 2022. Obviously people just enjoy a day out on the river. I would like to thank Gary for keeping a good eye on the river and cutting the grass, John Gray for his invaluable help with the website www.abernethy-angling.co.uk, Beth David and staff at Boat P.O, for all their help with permit sales. Cairngorm Mountain Sports for Aviemore permits.

Please remember to take your rubbish home. All this leaves me to say is tight lines and enjoy your fishing this season

Best wishes Duncan, Joan & committee.
