Dear members

Happy new year to you all once again the fishing season is fast approaching! We are not holding an AGM or an opening ceremony as we all need to stay safe and not gather in large numbers to avoid covid. The fishing huts will be open but please take care and remember to social distance. In 2021 our membership was steady with 36 adults 40 seniors 29 juniors. Juniors are free up until the age of 21 years as long as they are in full time education. Visitors tickets were slow to start but once lockdown finished permit sales were good and we managed to pay the rent and all club expenses. Please can I remind all members to pay their dues before May 1st.

Rod catches were down on 2020 so I mentioned it to the Spey board when I sent the catch numbers in. I received a letter back from Roger Knight the director 5300 salmon were caught throughout the Spey which made it the top of all rivers in Scotland. River levels and weather conditions play a big part in the catchment areas and they are working hard to persuade the Scottish government to re appraise the volumes of water that is diverted to generate hydro power also they work alongside the Atlantic salmon trust to overcome barriers to help the fish run and they are restoring habitat and replanting trees along the banks of rivers and burns for shade. 40 years ago there was an estimate of 10 million salmon in our seas now it’s closer to 2.5 to 3 million. Thanks to you all for returning fish as it is our way of helping them to improve future fish stocks.

Catches for 2021 as follows:

Salmon 55    Grilse 11    Sea trout 96

Catches for 2020 below:
